Vladutu, Kling Capture Doubles Crown at Michigan Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Ana Vladutu and Jasmin Kling secured the doubles championship at the Michigan Invitational on Sunday morning as the DePaul women's tennis team wrapped up play in Ann Arbor.

Vladutu and Kling defeated Arizona State's Joanna Smith and Desirae Krawczyk, 8-6, to share the doubles title, which was determined by a point system, with Notre Dame's Brittney Sanders and Quinn Gleason. Patricia Fargas and Rebeca Mitrea beat Leighann Sahagun and Kassidy Jump, 8-3, and Kelsey Lawson teammed with Jarret Fisher but fell to Ebony Panoho and Gussie O'Sullivan, 8-6.

DePaul finished up the tournament with a slate of singles matches against Notre Dame. Zaina Sufi and Mitrea notched the Blue Demons' wins in the round; Sufi topped Julie Vrabel (6-4, 6-2) and Mitrea defeated Jane Fennelly, 6-5, 6-3.

Vladutu, Fargas and Lawson all fell to nationally-ranked opponents in the Notre Dame match.

Next weekend (Sept. 28-29), the Blue Demons travel to Los Angeles, Calif., for the All-American Pre-Qualifier. It will be the second of five fall tournaments for DePaul.
