Women's Tennis Strong in Qualifiers at Midwest Regionals

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - DePaul women's tennis has three alive in the qualifiers after a strong first day at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regionals on Thursday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
"Not a bad first day, this is a tough tournament because there is a lot of down time and a lot of kids are trying to prove themselves," said head coach Mark Ardizzone. "Ana and Rebeca were very impressive in their second round matches, while Kelsey struggled at times but finished strong to advance. It'll be three tough ones tomorrow to get into the main draw. We will have to up our compete level to join our teammates in the big part of the tournament."
Seeded second, Vladutu was a 6-1,6-1 winner in her second round match against Angelika Jogasuria of Akron and will advance to play Notre Dame's Julie Sabacinski.
Mitrea will also be vying for a spot in the main draw after a 6-2,6-1 decision over UIC's Katherine Sharples. Mitrea will face Marta Burak of Youngstown State.
The Fifth-seeded Lawson made it a third Blue Demon shooting for a main draw spot with a 7-6,6-3 victory over Daphane Friedrichs of EMU. Lawson will square off with Anita Henestrosa of IPFW tomorrow morning.
All three third round matches will take place at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, and will see the winners move onto the main draw, which kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 20.
