COLUMBUS, Ohio - DePaul women's tennis players - Carolin Neumann, Rebeca Mitrea and Cali Gustafson all competed in the Qualifying Bracket of the ITA Midwest Regional on Thursday at Ohio State's Varsity Tennis Center and Jesse Owens West Tennis Center. The Blue Demon trio all lost their opening round match and fell into the consolation bracket.
Moving into the consolation bracket, Mitrea topped Detroit's 6-4, 6-2 and Gustafson topped IPFWs Brooke Dennis 6-3, 6-2. The Blue Demon duo will continue the consolation bracket on Friday at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
Doubles play begins on Friday. Patricia Fargas and Mitrea team-up for a 2 p.m. match, and Neumann and Gustafson will play at 4 p.m. Gia McKnight and Kelsey Lawson received a first round bye and play a tandem from either Akron or Ohio State in the second round match-up at approximately 6 p.m.
The Blue Demon trio Lawson, McKnight and Fargas will begin the regional's Main Singles Brackets on Saturday morning. Lawson and Fargas begin play at 11 a.m., while McKnight received a first round bye and starts her final ITA Midwest Regional at 12:30 p.m.
