ANN ARBOR, Mich. – DePaul freshmen Christiana Raymond and Kelsey Lawson both advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center on Thursday. Lawson and Raymond each need to win one more match to advance to the main singles draw which is scheduled to begin on Saturday.
Raymond, who is the No. 3 seed in the qualifying bracket, received a first round bye. The Blue Demon freshman entered the Regional with a 5-3 record, and topped Nicole Janek from Cleveland State 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance to the Round of 16.
Lawson won two matches en route to the Round of 16. In her opening round victory, Lawson topped Alex Forsyth from IPFW 6-3, 6-1 before defeating Catrine Bjerrehus from Cleveland State 6-4, 7-6 (4).
At the conclusion of Thursday’s action the doubles bracket was released and DePaul’s No. 31 ranked doubles pair of Selma Salkovic and Gia McKnight received the No. 3 seed and a first round bye.
Doubles play begins at the conclusion of the singles qualifying bracket on Friday. Two rounds of doubles actions will be played as well as one round of consolation.
