CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The quarterfinals round will be heavy on the red and blue after three DePaul women's tennis student-athletes advanced on Sunday at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regionals at the Atkins Tennis Center.

Jasmin Kling, Patricia Fargas and Matea Cutura all remained undefeated at the tournament with big wins on Sunday. That all three advanced was significant for the Blue Demon program, as DePaul has never had more than one player in the quarterfinal round.

"It's really exciting day for our program," said head coach Mark Ardizzone. "The girls showed a lot of heart in their matches and this tournament is sometimes a battle of wills just as much as tennis."

Kling, ranked 73rd in the ITA Preseason Rankings, marched on in the draw with a dramatic come-from-behind win after trailing Michigan's Sarah Lee, 5-1, at one point in the second set. The Blue Demon sophomore rallied to storm back in a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over the 125th ranked Lee and will face Northwestern's Belinda Niu (No. 117) on Monday.

Fargas also beat a Wolverine, besting Michigan's Brooke Bolender, ranked No. 58 in the ITA Preseason Singles rankings, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. She will face Northwestern's 12th ranked Kate Turvy in Monday's match.

Cutura punched her ticket to the next round with a decisive 6-2, 7-6 (2) win over Ohio State's Fidan Manashirova and will get Illinois' Allison Falkin (No. 82) in the next round. The Blue Demon freshman also remains undefeated (8-0) in her first fall of collegiate competition.

"It was just an incredible effort by Jasmin coming back from 5-1 in the second set to win her match in three sets," said Ardizonne. "Patricia battled against a top-80 national player and won a rough third set as well. Matea played a girl who doesn't quit and was fortunate to win a tough second set to close out match."

"Tomorrow is a fun day, we've never had more than one player in the quarterfinals at this event, so to have three, more than any other team, is really a great accomplishment. Tomorrow's matches will be really tough, so the girls will have to summon the energy and effort again. Should be a lot of fun."

All three quarterfinal tilts are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Stay tuned to DePaulBlueDemons.com for final results.
