Lawson Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

NEW YORK -- DePaul senior Kelsey Lawson has been named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Lawson, a senior from Tempe, Ariz., went 3-0 over the weekend in singles play at the Northwestern Wildcat Winter Classic in Evanston, Ill. On Friday (Jan. 17), she defeated 68th-ranked Erin Routliffe (Alabama), 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5), before topping Iowa's Shelby Talcott with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 triumph the following afternoon.
Lawson also picked up a doubles victory on Saturday with teammate Jasmin Kling. The duo beat Iowa's Ruth Seaborne and Morven McCulloch, 7-6 (4).
On Sunday (Jan. 19), Lawson held on to beat Northwestern's Nida Hamilton in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7), to cap her perfect singles weekend.
Lawson and the Blue Demons open up dual matches this weekend at the ITA Kick-Off in College Station, Texas. On Saturday (Jan. 25), DePaul faces San Jose State at 10 a.m. Sunday's match (Jan. 26) will feature the Blue Demons and either Texas A&M or Mississippi State. Match time for Sunday will be announced Saturday night.
