Women's Tennis Travels to Colorado
CHICAGO The DePaul women’s tennis team continues its 2008 spring season this weekend with road duals at Colorado and Denver. The Blue Demons face the No. 56 Buffaloes on Friday at the Millennium Harvest House in Boulder before challenging the No. 47 Pioneers on Saturday at the Pinehurst Country Club in Denver. Friday’s match opens at 5 p.m. (CST) and Sunday’s first serve is set for 3 p.m. DePaul enters the weekend with a 2-0 record after posting home victories over Butler and Western Illinois last Saturday. The Blue Demons topped the Bulldogs, 6-1, before they swept the Westerwinds, 7-0 at Lakeshore Athletic Club.. Junior Dunja Antunovic recorded two victories at No. 1 singles, freshman Selma Salkovic won a pair of matches at No. 3 singles and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell went 2-0 at No. 4 singles. Colorado and Denver are the first two nationally-ranked opponents on a DePaul dual schedule that boasts a total of nine teams currently in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top 75 poll. DePaul holds several spots in the latest Midwest Region polls. Senior Gergana Ganeva and Anunovic are currently ranked No. 13 in the doubles poll, while the singles poll holds Antunovic at No. 19 and Ganeva at No. 25. This weekend’s competition marks the beginning of a seven-week road campaign that takes the Blue Demons throughout the Midwest and to the East Coast. DePaul returns to the Lakeshore Athletic Club on March 8 for home duals against Northern Illinois and Bradley.
