No. 62 Blue Demons Win Dual Season Opener, 6-1
MADISON, Wis. The No. 62-ranked DePaul women’s tennis team opened its dual season today against No. 66 Wisconsin at the Nielsen Tennis Center. The Blue Demons walked away with a dominant victory, 6-1. After losing to Elizabeth Carpenter and Aleksandra Markovic during the fall tournament season, Dunja Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell evened the series season-score at one-all after winning the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. The duo is currently ranked No. 36 in the ITA national rankings. The doubles point was clinched when Selma Salkovic and Anna Redecsi defeated Alaina Trgovic and Jessica Seyferth, 8-5. In singles action, the DePaul won five additional matches to earn the team victory. No. 109-ranked Antunovic beat Carpenter, 7-6, 7-5, in the No. 1 singles match. Salkovic, Gia McKnight, and Sandra Zmak all won in straight sets. Redecsi won her No. 2 singles match against Trgovich after she was forced to retire. This marks the sixth meeting between the Badgers and the Blue Demons. With the win today, DePaul evened out the all-time series, 3-3. The Blue Demons return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. (CST) when they host Cleveland State in the Lakeshore Athletic Center, followed by a nightcap versus Chicago State in Hyde Park at 7 p.m.
