Women's Tennis Falls to No. 47 Denver
DENVER, Colo. The DePaul women’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 road loss to No. 47 Denver on Saturday. Sophomore Kirsten Gambrell gave the Blue Demons a singles victory at Pinehurst Country Club. Gambrell posted DePaul’s only point of the day with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Kaja Smole at No. 6 singles. Junior Dunja Antunovic suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Mallory Voelker at No. 1 singles, while senior Gergana Ganeva dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match to Ute Schnoy at No. 2 singles. Freshman Selma Salkovic lost in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 7-5, to Julia Bauregger at No. 4 singles and senior Anja Mihaldinec fell, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5, to Bhavani Tirumurti at No. 5 singles. Senior Beatrix Csordas teamed with Salkovic for DePaul’s only win in doubles play. The Blue Demon duo knocked off Kyla Iwinski and Schnoy, 8-3, in the No. 2 match. DePaul (3-1) returns to action next weekend with a pair of road duals in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Blue Demons face Ball State on Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST) before they take on No. 62 Western Michigan on Sunday at noon.
