Women's Tennis Heads to the ITA Qualifier, Face No. 6 Notre Dame on Saturday

CHICAGO - The No. 46 DePaul women's tennis team heads to Notre Dame to compete at the ITA Indoor Qualifier Jan. 30-31 at the Ecks Tennis Pavilion.  The Blue Demons open the weekend against No. 6 and BIG EAST Conference rival Notre Dame on Saturday, while they will face either No. 17 North Carolina or No. 33 Boise State on Sunday.

The ITA Qualifier is part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend with the winner of Sunday's championship dual advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., Feb. 12-15.

Boise State and North Carolina will face off in the weekend's first match at 9 a.m. Saturday; followed by Notre Dame and DePaul at 2 p.m. (CST). Saturday's winners will face off in a championship dual while the losers of Saturday's contests will also play a consolation match on Sunday.

All four of the teams at this weekend's qualifier enter the tournament with an unblemished record.  The Blue Demons opened their dual schedule with a pair of 7-0 victories over Butler and Villanova while Notre Dame topped Iowa and Wisconsin in its first weekend of play.

Boise State has a pair of wins over Montana and Montana State while North Carolina is 3-0 after picking up wins over Winthrop, Kentucky and Minnesota.

There are five ranked doubles pairs at the Qualifier; UNC has three ranked doubles teams with No. 6 Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand being the top ranked pair at the tournament.  DePaul's, Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic come in at No. 9 while Notre Dame's Kristy Frilling and Kali Krisik are ranked No. 12. UNC's Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston follow at No. 22 while Haley Hemm and Jocelyn Ffriend are ranked No. 28.

The Blue Demon pair of Redecsi and Salkovic will most likely tangle with Frilling and Krisik on Saturday.  The two teams met in the championship match of the ITA Midwest Regional in October with Redecsi and Salkovic taking the match 8-6.

DePaul and Notre Dame will meet for the fifth time in five years while the Irish have won the four previous meetings, including the BIG EAST Championship match in 2009.  Notre Dame topped the DePaul 5-2 for the conference championship.

Following the ITA Qualifier, the Blue Demons have duals at North Carolina State and No. 39 Wake Forest Feb. 5-6.
