Women's Tennis Leaves Los Angeles with a Win Over No. 64 Minnesota
LOS ANGELES The No. 63-ranked DePaul women’s tennis team rebounded from yesterday’s disappointing loss to take a decisive victory against No. 64 Minnesota, 4-0. The Blue Demons clinched the win with five-straight match wins.
First, in doubles play, Gia McKnight and Sandra Zmak earned an exciting win over Tijana Koprivica and Jackie Sperling, 9-7. Anna Redesci and Selma Salkovic put the double point away after defeating Alessandra Ferrazzi and Nitooli Wilkins, 8-6. Because the point was already claimed, the No. 36 doubles tandem of Dunja Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell did not complete in their match.
Redecsi was the first to finish her singles match, beating Wilkins in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. DePaul went up 3-0 after Katarina Milinkovic beat Sperling, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 singles slot. Antunovic clinched the team victory after her win in the top match against Karina Chiarelli, 6-1, 6-3.
Salkovic’s, Zmak’s and McKnight’s matces were all suspended mid-match, after the fourth point was claimed.
The Blue Demons return to the court next weekend for three matches. On Friday, Feb. 6 they welcome Saint Louis to the Lakeshore Athletic Center at 6 p.m. (CST) On Saturday they travel to Evanston, Ill. to face Texas at noon, followed by a night cap in Evergreen Park, Ill. against Lewis slated for 6:30.
