Women's Tennis Defeats No. 66 Western Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. The No. 59 DePaul women’s tennis team picked up a 6-1 road victory at No. 66 Western Michigan on Sunday. The Blue Demons (5-1) took the doubles point before they defeated the Broncos (2-2) in five singles matches at West Hills Athletic Club.
DePaul opened the dual with a pair of victories in doubles play. Senior Beatrix Csordas and freshman Selma Salkovic posted an 8-5 win over Yumi Matsuto and Ashley Moccia in the No. 2 match, while senior Anja Mihaldinec and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell defeated Priyanka Parekh and Amanda Moccia at No. 3.
The top two singles matches saw the Blue Demons battle for a pair of three-set victories. Junior Dunja Antunovic topped Noriko Saruta, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1, while senior Gergana Ganeva rallied past Parekh for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 2.
Salkovic gave DePaul a point at No. 3 singles as she defeated Matsuto, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Katarina Milinkovic knocked off Amanda Moccia, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles, while Kirsten Gambrell cruised past Yuka Kobayashi, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 6 match.
DePaul returns to action next weekend with matches at Illinois and Iowa. The Blue Demons face the Illini on Friday at 6 p.m. (CST) before they challenge the Hawkeyes on Sunday at noon.
