PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a 3-0 weekend at number one singles, DePaul women's tennis freshman Matea Cutura was named BIG EAST Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.

The award was the first of Cutura's young career as the Zagreb, Croatia-native continues a standout rookie season for the No. 71 Blue Demons.

This past weekend, playing in the top spot in three matches, Cutura helped the Blue Demons to three straight wins and lost just four sets in singles play. She is now 14-3 overall in singles play -- with three wins against nationally-ranked opponents -- and boasts a 10-6 doubles record.

On Friday, Cutura defeated Milwaukee's Maddy Soule 6-1, 6-0 before a Saturday sweep (6-0, 6-0) of Butler's Stephanie McGloughlin. On Sunday, Cutura capped the weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Eastern Michigan's Nino Mebuke.

On the doubles side, Cutura paired with junior Kelsey Lawson on an undefeated weekend. The pair produced a combined score of 24-6, defeating three different duos by scores of 8-0, 8-4 and 8-2.

Next up for the Blue Demons will be a home match against Utah on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
