Women's Tennis Tames the Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 37 DePaul women's tennis team topped North Carolina State, 5-2 on Friday at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Friday. The Blue Demons have won their last two matches and improve to 4-1 on the young dual season.
NC State (1-1) won the first doubles match as Daria Petrovic and Sandhya Nagaraj topped Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic 8-3 which put pressure on DePaul's two other pairs.
The Blue Demons handled the pressure like a top ranked team as Kirsten Gambrell and Sandra Zmak defeated Chloe Smith and Tana Illova 8-4. The No. 9 ranked pair of Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic followed sute and defeated Berkeley Brock and Lenka Hojckova 8-6.
Up 1-0, Zmak quickly added to the Blue Demon lead with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win over Petrovic in the No. 4 position. NC State recorded its first point of the match when No. 45 Sandhya Nagaraj defeated Redecsi 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 match.
Playing at No. 2, Salkovic improved her winning streak to five matches with a dominating 6-4, 6-4 win over Hojckov.
Milinkovic overcame a first set loss in the No. 3 spot to clinch the Blue Demon victory. Milinkovic topped Brock, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
After the match was clinched, Gambrell picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Smith at the No. 6 spot.
The women's tennis team will show its solidarity with the DePaul women's basketball team, who is hosting its Pink Zone game Saturday, and will wear Pink for its match with No. 46 Wake Forest on Saturday at Noon.
