Blue Demons Dropped By Michigan State
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Blue Demons let Michigan State slip by on Friday night, losing 6-1.
In singles competition, the Blue Demons gave their opponents a run for their money as the first through third matches were taken to three sets.
Spartan Caroline Lay came back to win sets two and three in first singles after Marina Parashkevova had put away the first set (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Brenda Leung of DePaul fought back for set two after against Jean Willman but couldn't hold on to set three as she lost 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
In the No. 3 spot, Natalie Matko captured the first set with ease but was dropped in sets two and three (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).
DePaul's only singles win came when Stephanie Matko defeated Karen Gustafson in the No. 6 position. Matko dropped her opponent 6-3 in the first set and made things a little more interesting in the second set as she held on through a 7-5 victory.
DePaul tackled one of three doubles matches when Parashkevova and Karen Falduto handed Willman and Shelley Brady their first loss of the season.
The Blue Demons record drops to 4-4. They will look to tally a pair of wins on Saturday when they play Bradley and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
