Women's Tennis Suffers Loss at No. 46 Iowa



IOWA CITY, Iowa The No. 60 DePaul women’s tennis team came up short in a 4-3 loss to No. 46 Iowa on Sunday.  The Blue Demons (5-3) won a trio of singles matches at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.

Junior Dunja Antunovic gave DePaul a point in the top singles match as she knocked off Jacqueline Lee, 7-6, 6-4.  With the victory, Antunovic improves to 5-3 in dual-season singles play.

Freshman Selma Salkovic earned her seventh singles win of the dual campaign with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Merel Beelen in the No. 3 match.  The No. 6 singles match saw senior Beatrix Csordas improve to 2-0 as she rolled past Kayla Berry, 6-0, 6-2.

The Blue Demons dropped all three doubles matches to the Hawkeyes (2-0).  Senior Gergana Ganeva and Antunovic dropped an 8-7 (5) decision to Alexis Dorr and Lee in the top match, while Salkovic and Csordas suffered an 8-5 loss to Milica Veselinovic and Beelen in the No. 2 spot.  Sophomore Kirsten Gambrell and freshman Katarina Milinkovic fell, 8-3, to Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Berry at No. 3 doubles.

DePaul heads east next weekend to face No. 71 Princeton before taking on BIG EAST Conference rival St. John’s.  The Blue Demons challenge the Tigers on Saturday at the Jadwin Gym in Princeton, N.J. before they tangle with the Red Storm on Sunday at the Courts at St. John’s.
