CHICAGO – For the second time in two weeks a DePaul women’s tennis player has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week. Blue Demon freshman Jasmin Kling was tabbed the league’s Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading DePaul to a 2-0 record last week.
Kling helped the Blue Demons to their seventh straight victory and second over a ranked team with a pair of wins on the singles and doubles courts. DePaul defeated Wisconsin on the road, 5-2 and claimed a 6-1 victory over No. 37 NC State on Saturday.
Playing in the No. 1 singles position; Kling took down Wisconsin’s Hannah Berner in straight sets before defeating No. 40 Joelle Kissell from NC State 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The victory was Kling’s first over a ranked opponent this season. The Heilbronn, Germany native has won five or her last six singles matches and is 4-1 in the top singles position.
In doubles, Kling teamed with Gia McKnight for two victories, only losing seven games between the two matches. The duo improves to 7-4 on the year and is 5-2 in the top doubles spot.
This is DePaul’s second BIG EAST Player of the Week honor this season while it is the 12th since the Blue Demons joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
