Feb. 14, 2014
CHICAGO -- Winners of five straight contests, the No. 53 DePaul women's tennis team will play three matches in less than 24 hours this weekend in Chicago.
The Blue Demons (6-1), who jumped 21 spots in the Feb. 11 ITA National Poll, take on South Dakota State (3-1) at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 15) and then play Milwaukee (1-2) later that evening at 6 p.m. Then, DePaul hosts Michigan State (6-1) at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 16).
DePaul is coming off a 2-0 road trip in Iowa City, Iowa, a week ago. The Blue Demons won a pair of 4-3 matches, first over No. 72 Oregon on Feb. 8 and then against Iowa the next day. DePaul trailed 3-2 against the Hawkeyes before Rebeca Mitrea and Zaina Sufi won the final two singles matches to seal the victory. Sufi and Mitrea are a combined 12-1 in No. 5 and No. 6 dual singles matches this year; Sufi has won six straight matches and is 16-5 overall, while Mitrea has won her last five and sits at 13-10.
As a team, the Blue Demons are 25-10 in dual singles matches and hold an 11-6 mark in dual doubles play. They are in the midst of their best start since 2011-12, when they started 8-1.
DePaul's three matches this weekend are the last home contests until mid-April.
