CHICAGO – DePaul senior women’s tennis standout Katarina Milinkovic was named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office. Milinkovic, who plays No. 1 singles and doubles, helped the No. 34 Blue Demons to wins over Georgetown, Drexel and Navy on the road last week.
Milinkovic defeated Navy’s Amanda Griffin 6-2, 6-0, shutout Drexel’s Gozde Unkaya and beat Georgetown’s Stephanie Wetmore 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The senior boasts an 87-38 singles record and has won her last six matches and eight of her last nine.
Milinkovic and her doubles partner Gia McKnight entered the ITA doubles rankings at No. 55 following wins over Navy’s Amanda Griffin and Erin Snook 8-2 and Drexel’s Sonja Stosic and Zeynep Mafa, 8-1. The tandem improved to 6-2 on the season while Milinkovic boasts a career, 65-43 doubles mark.
The Blue Demons (6-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) have won their last four matches and return to the courts on Feb. 19 when they travel to No. 47 Indiana before returning to the Lakeshore Athletic Club on Feb. 20 for a dual with No. 48 Iowa.
