Women's Tennis Earns BIG EAST Win at St. John's
QUEENS, N.Y. The No. 71 DePaul women’s tennis team picked up a 6-1 road victory over BIG EAST Conference rival St. John’s on Sunday. The Blue Demons (7-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) won the doubles point before taking five singles matches from the Red Storm (1-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) at the Alley Pond Tennis Center. DePaul opened the dual with a pair of doubles victories. Junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell topped Ashley Harper and Emily Barnett, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles, while senior Anja Mihaldinec and freshman Selma Salkovic recorded an 8-3 win over Mariana Chachua and Jenny Yonkus in the No. 3 match. Senior Gergana Ganeva gave the Blue Demons a point at No. 2 singles as she rolled past Alison Adamski, 6-3, 6-3. Salkovic improved to 9-1 in dual-season singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Chachua in the No. 3 match. The No. 4 match saw senior Beatrix Csordas raise her season record to a perfect 4-0 with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Barnett. Gambrell cruised past Yonkus, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Mihaldinec edged Ira Aleksova, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 6 match. The Blue Demons return to competition on Saturday with a neutral-court match against BIG EAST rival Syracuse. DePaul challenges the Orange at 1 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Doubles Singles
