Sufi Garners BIG EAST Player of the Week Accolades

NEW YORK -- For the third time in five weeks, the BIG EAST Conference has named a DePaul athlete its Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

This time, sophomore Zaina Sufi earned the award after posting a 6-0 weekend in singles and doubles play.

Senior Kelsey Lawson and junior Patricia Fargas have also been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week this year.

Sufi helped anchor three DePaul victories over the weekend; the team is now 9-1 overall and ranked No. 45 in the Feb. 18 ITA National Tennis Poll. Individually, Sufi went 3-0 in singles play to move her overall record to 19-5 and her dual record to a perfect 9-0. In doubles, she posted a 3-0 mark with teammates Jarret Fisher and Rebeca Mitrea.

Sufi and Blue Demons next take the court on Friday (Feb. 21) at Georgetown. Match time from Washington, D.C., is slated for 3 p.m.
