Blue Demons Triumph Over Hawkeyes
IOWA CITY, Iowa The No. 41 DePaul women’s tennis squad defeated No. 75 Iowa on Friday afternoon, 5-2. The Blue Demons improve to 8-2, while the Hawkeyes fall to 4-5. In the battle for the doubles point, Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic gave the Blue Demons the advantage with their 8-3 win over Sonja Molna and Jessica Young. The duo boasts a team-best dual record of 11-1. Clinching the doubles point, Gia McKnight and Kirsten Gambrell won their third match of the season as a pair, beating Alexis Dorr and Ally Majercik, 8-5. Dunja Antunovic and Sandra Zmak narrowly lost out to Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Kelcie Klockenga, 8-7. The Hawkeyes even the score back up after Antunovic fell to Molnar, 6-2, 6-0. McKnight quickly put the Blue Demons back on top with her 6-1, 6-4t triumph over Young. The freshman is the first to hit the 20-win milestone for the team this season. Redecsi, Salkovic, and Katarina Milinkovic quickly took the next three points to clinch the team-victory. Redecsi allowed just three points in her dominant win over Poggensee-Wei. Salkovic defeated Kelcie Klockenga, 6-3, 6-4, while Milinkovic won by a score of 7-6, 6-3. Zmak suffered a narrow loss to Dorr, who after splitting the first two sets, lost in the tie-breaker, 10-5. The team returns to the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. (CST) to face Kansas.
