Women's Tennis Challenges Syracuse and Purdue
CHICAGO The No. 69 DePaul women’s tennis team continues its 2008 season this weekend with duals against BIG EAST Conference rival Syracuse and No. 51 Purdue. A 1 p.m. (CST) neutral-court match on Saturday pits the Blue Demons against the Orange at the Helfaer Tennis Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. DePaul visits Purdue’s Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana on Sunday at 11 a.m. DePaul (7-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) enters the weekend after earning a pair of road victories at Princeton and St. John’s. The Blue Demons edged the No. 70 Tigers on Saturday before they posted a 6-1 victory over their BIG EAST Conference rival in Queens, New York. Last weekend saw Selma Salkovic improve her dual-season singles record to 9-1 with a pair of victories in the No. 3 match, while senior Beatrix Csordas raised her singles record to a perfect 4-0. Junior Dunja Antunovic carries a season record of 5-5 at No. 1 singles and senior Gergana Ganeva is 5-5 this spring in the No. 2 match. Syracuse (6-4, 4-0 BIG EAST) has won two straight matches and three of its last four. The Orange rolled past BIG EAST rivals Connecticut, 6-1, and Seton Hall, 7-0, last weekend. Purdue (2-4) is on a two-match losing streak as the Boilermakers fell to Oregon, 4-3, and Washington, 5-2, last weekend. The 2007 season saw the Blue Demons split their meetings with Syracuse. DePaul swept the Orange, 7-0, on April 8 before falling, 4-1, at the BIG EAST Championships on April 22. Purdue recorded a 7-0 shutout over DePaul on February 4, 2007.
