CHICAGO – The No. 73 DePaul women’s tennis team heads to Columbus, Ohio for weekend duals with No. 64 Ohio State and No. 31 Arkansas. The Blue Demons and Buckeyes hit the courts at the Ohio State University Indoor Tennis Center on Friday at 1 p.m. DePaul and the Razorbacks play a neutral site dual on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Blue Demons are coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss on the road last week at Indiana. The loss snapped an eight-match winning streak for the Blue Demons. This weekend’s matches mark the fourth and fifth ranked teams DePaul’s has faced this season. The women are 2-1 against ranked foes with wins over then-No. 36 SMU and No. 37 North Carolina State.
Heading into the weekend, Patricia Fargas and Gia McKnight will each look to keep their respective singles, winning streaks alive.
Fargas has posted a 7-0 mark in the No. 2 position, while the freshman has won her last nine singles matches. Fargas has played well in Columbus as the freshman reached the Semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regional in the fall. During her unexpected and exciting run at the Regional, Farags defeated two ranked players on her way to becoming the first Blue Demon to reach the semifinals of the regional since 2009. Fargas boasts a 19-8 singles mark and is 9-1 in duals this Spring.
McKnight boasts a 14-10 singles mark and has won her last three matches. The senior has posted an 83-54 singles mark in her three-plus seasons and is 7-2 this season in the No. 3 position.
Ohio State enters Friday’s dual with a 2-4 record and is coming off a 4-3 win at Louisville on Wednesday. OSU in paced by No. 123 Fidan Manashirova in singles
Arkansas (6-2) is coming off a 5-2 loss to Yale on Feb. 12. The Razorbacks have faced five ranked teams and have been ranked as high as No. 24 this season.
Following this weekend, the Blue Demons travel to Milwaukee for a BIG EAST Conference dual with Rutgers on Mar. 3 before heading to Iowa for a dual with a the Hawkeyes on Mar. 4.
