Women's Tennis Defeats Connecticut

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The DePaul women’s tennis team defeated Connecticut, 5-2, on Sunday at Marquette’s Helfaer Tennis Stadium to pick up its second BIG EAST win of the season.  Inclement weather forced the Blue Demons to postpone their Sunday afternoon dual with Wisconsin-Green Bay.

DePaul swept through doubles action, winning all three matches by a score of 8-1.  Dunja Antunovic and Anja Mihaldinec defeated Breann Cheung and Jess Porter in the top flight, while Petra Rehusova and Kirsten Gambrell rolled past Kelley LoRusso and Allie Campitiello in the second match.  Bojana Murisic and Clare Chmiel triumphed over Ashley Petruzzi and Alison Koch at No. 3 to round out the sweep.

Antunovic shut out Christine Burek, 6-0, 6-0, in the top singles flight.  The Blue Demon sophomore is now 10-1 in dual season singles matches and a perfect 7-0 when playing in the No. 1 match.

The second singles match saw Rehusova give the Blue Demons a 6-4, 6-1 win over LoRusso.  Gambrell rolled past Porter, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, while Murisic defeated Campitiello, 6-3, 6-3, in the fifth match.

DePaul (6-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns to the court on Friday, March 2 with a 4 p.m. dual at Ohio State.  The Blue Demons’ competition with Wisconsin-Green Bay will be rescheduled for a later date.
