Women's Tennis Comes Up Short at No. 28 Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The No. 57 DePaul women’s tennis team fell, 5-2, at No. 28 Indiana on Saturday. Senior Gergana Ganeva and freshman Katarina Milinkovic gave the Blue Demons two singles victories but the Hoosiers prevailed at the IU Tennis Center.
The No. 2 singles match saw Ganeva post a 6-3, 6-4 win over Katya Zapadalova. With the victory, Ganeva improves to 8-5 in spring singles play. Milinkovic closed out singles action when she topped Sigrid Fischer, 6-4, 6-4. The Blue Demon freshman has won three consecutive singles matches as her dual-season record improves to 5-5.
Saturday’s competition opened with doubles play as DePaul (9-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) dropped two matches to Indiana (9-3). Senior Beatrix Csordas and Ganeva suffered an 8-3 loss to Brianna Williams and Zapadalova at No. 1 before freshman Selma Salkovic and Milinkovic took an 8-6 loss to Myriam Sopen and Fischer at No. 3. Junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell did not finish their match with Alba Berdala and Lindsey Stuckey at No. 2.
The Blue Demons return to action on Sunday with a neutral-court BIG EAST Conference dual against Rutgers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. DePaul challenges the Scarlet Knights at 1 p.m. (CST) at the Helfaer Tennis Center.
