CHICAGO – Moving up 35 spots in the Campbell’s/ITA Team Rankings, the No. 38 DePaul women’s tennis opens BIG EAST Conference play with Rutgers in Milwaukee on Saturday before heading to Iowa for a 10 a.m. dual with the Hawkeyes on Sunday.

The Blue Demons are coming off an impressive 4-3 win over No. 31 Arkansas last weekend propelling them to their No. 38 ranking.  DePaul entered the rankings on Feb. 16 at No. 71 after defeating a pair of ranked teams.  The squad is 3-1 against ranked teams and enters the weekend with a 9-3 record.

Capturing the majority of its points on the singles courts, DePaul has combined for a 94-68 record with four players – Patricia Fargas, Gia McKnight, Kelsey Lawson and Carolin Neumann all with double-digit wins.

Fargas, enters the weekend on an 11-match singles winning streak and is coming off her third ranked win of the season.  The Blue Demon freshman is 3-3 against ranked opponents and boasts a 9-0 record in the No. 2 position.

Fellow freshman, Jasmin Kling plays in DePaul’s top singles spot and is ranked No. 121 in this week’s singles rankings.  Kling is 7-2 in the No. 1 singles position while she has won five of her last six matches including a three-set thriller of the No. 40 ranked player at the time.

Heading into the weekend, McKnight will be looking for her 85th singles victory and 80th win in doubles.  The Blue Demon senior boasts an 84-55 singles record while she is 79-57 all-time in doubles.  McKnight has 16 doubles wins on the season and is paired with Kling in the No. 1 doubles spot.

On the year, McKnight and Kling are 8-3 and have won five of their last six matches.

DePaul plays its fourth neutral site dual of the year against BIG EAST foe Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights (5-2, 1-1 BIG EAST) travel to the Midwest for another conference dual with Marquette on Friday before tangling with the Blue Demons on Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Last season, DePaul topped Rutgers 4-2 in the BIG EAST Championship and owns a 4-0 all-time series advantage.

Following Saturday’s dual, the Blue Demons travel to Iowa for a 10 a.m. match at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.  The Hawkeyes are led by Sonja Molnar who enters the match ranked No. 110 in singles and is 6-0 in duals in the No. 1 singles spot.
