NEW YORK – DePaul sophomore Ana Vladutu has been named the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Vladutu is the fifth Blue Demon to take home the award in the last seven weeks. She joins Kelsey Lawson, Patricia Fargas, Zaina Sufi and Jasmin Kling, who each received the honor earlier this year.

Vladutu helped lead the No. 41 Blue Demons to two wins last weekend (Feb. 28-March 1) by going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles competition. She won two matches in the No. 2 singles slot and two in the No. 1 doubles position.

On Feb. 28 against Northern Illinois, Vladutu teamed with Fargas to defeat Nelle Youel and Arantza De La Torre, 8-1, in doubles before taking down Haley Dekkinga, 6-3, 6-2, in singles play.

The next day, Vladutu clinched DePaul’s nail-biting 4-3 victory over Wisconsin with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Lauren Burich. Earlier in the match, Vladutu and Fargas won their doubles match over Burich and Nova Patel, 8-3.

DePaul (14-1) has won 13 consecutive matches and will aim for two more this weekend as the team travels to the state of Indiana for matches at Butler (March 7) and No. 34 Indiana (March 8). The matches are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
