Pair of Conference Wins Caps 3-0 Weekend for Women's Tennis

SAINT LOUIS, MO. - The women's tennis team rattled off its best weekend of the season with two victories at love and a third that was 6-1. The trio of wins allows the team to even its dual meet record at .500 for the first time this season. The Blue Demons are now 9-9 (2-2 Conference USA).

DePaul began its weekend trip to Saint Louis with a match against Murray State last Friday (March 2). The Blue Demons were able to jump out to an early lead sweeping all three of the doubles matches. From there, the team proceeded to claim all six singles matches and win the meet 7-0. Szilvia Keleman was the only DePaul player to be extended to three sets, but won 3-6, 6-2, 1-0.

Carrying the momentum of the Murray State win, the Blue Demons faced a conference double header Saturday afternoon. The momentum would last as the team pounced on the Memphis Tigers and downed them 6-1. Laura Taylor picked up a win at number one singles 6-2, 6-0 that followed her victory from the previous day. It was the first time in a week and a half that she was able to compete. Taylor has been sidelined by injury at differing times this season. Natalie Matko added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number six singles to conclude the meet.

DePaul then positioned itself for the weekend sweep when it defeated Saint Louis 4-0. The meet was halted at four when the first team was able to clinch the victory. DePaul had won two of the three doubles matches and three singles matches to claim the sweep. The Blue Demons led the other doubles match and led in the other three remaining singles matches when play ended.

The team will next play in Des Moines when they face Drake and Northwest Missouri in separate dual meets this Saturday, March 10. DePaul will play Drake first at 10 a.m. and Northwest Missouri at 3 p.m.
