Women's Tennis Rolls into Indiana for Two Weekend Matches
March 6, 2014
CHICAGO -- Winners of 13 consecutive matches, the DePaul women's tennis team travels to the state of Indiana for two matches this weekend.
DePaul enters the two matches at 14-1 overall and ranked 41st nationally. The Blue Demons are coming off a 2-0 weekend (Feb. 28-March 1), when they eked out a 4-3 win over Wisconsin and toppled Northern Illinois, 7-0. The Wisconsin match snapped a streak of six straight shutout wins for DePaul.
Sophomore Ana Vladutu went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play against the Badgers and Huskies. The BIG EAST named her the conference Player of the Week for her efforts. It marked the fifth time this season a Blue Demon won the award (Vladutu joined Kelsey Lawson, Patricia Fargas, Zaina Sufi and Jasmin Kling).
This weekend (March 7-8) DePaul plays on the road for two matches in Indiana, the first coming against Butler on Friday while the second comes against No. 34 Indiana on Saturday.
Butler enters its match with the Blue Demons at 2-8 overall but is one of DePaul's newest rivals in the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons are 2-0 against BIG EAST opponents this year; they won at Georgetown, 7-0, on Feb. 21 and defeated Seton Hall in Annapolis, Md., by the same score the next day.
Indiana, meanwhile, will be the sixth ranked opponent the Blue Demons will face this year. DePaul is 4-1 against ranked teams in 2014, the only loss coming on Jan. 26 at No. 7 Texas A&M (4-1). The Hoosiers (10-3) climbed 19 spots in the latest ITA National Tennis Poll and have won three straight matches.
DePaul's match at Butler will be played at 9 a.m. CT; Saturday's match at Indiana is scheduled for 11 a.m. The Hoosiers will provide live scoring during the match.
