Women's Tennis Welcomes Three Intrastate Rivals

CHICAGO DePaul women’s tennis head coach Mark Ardizzone aims for his 200th career victory this weekend as the No. 51 Blue Demons host a trio of duals at Lakeshore Athletic Club.  DePaul welcomes Northern Illinois and Bradley for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. (CST), while Illinois State visits on Sunday for a 2 p.m. first serve.

Ardizzone’s career record stands at 198-114 as the Blue Demons (10-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) have won five of their last six duals.  The most recent victory came last Sunday with a 6-1 BIG EAST Conference win over Rutgers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Last Saturday saw DePaul suffer a 5-2 loss at then-No. 28 Indiana.

Through 14 dual-season matches, the Blue Demons have picked up consistent performances from upperclassmen and newcomers.  Senior Gergana Ganeva carries 10 singles victories in the No. 2 match and senior Anja Mihaldinec is 6-3 overall in spring singles play.  Freshman Selma Salkovic holds a dual-season record of 12-2, while freshman Katarina Milinkovic is 3-1 when playing at No. 4 singles.

Northern Illinois (1-2) heads to Chicago after splitting a pair of road duals last weekend.  The Huskies fell, 7-0, at No. 38 Iowa on Friday before they posted a 7-0 shutout over Western Illinois on Saturday.  Bradley (2-3) defeated Detroit, 4-3, on Sunday before taking a 4-3 loss to Eastern Illinois on Thursday.  Illinois State (3-3) knocked off Eastern Illinois, 5-2, last Friday.

DePaul won its last dual with each of the three teams it faces this weekend.  The 2007 campaign saw the Blue Demons knock off Illinois State, 4-3, on March 4 before they defeated Bradley, 5-2, on March 10.  DePaul competed against Northern Illinois in round-robin action last fall at the DePaul-DuPage Invitational, but the last dual match between the Blue Demons and the Huskies was on February 28, 2004.  DePaul won the dual, 6-1.
