No. 30 Blue Demons Roll Past Drake and Western Illinois
CHICAGO The No. 30 DePaul women’s tennis team improve to 15-2 after a pair of wins today at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons handed both Drake and Western Illinois a 7-0 loss, marking the 10th time this season they have issued a shutout. Katarina Milinkovic earned two singles and one doubles win today. She partnered with Dunja Antunovic to beat Drake’s Gabriela Demos and Amanda Aragon, 8-0. Milinkovic gave up just two games the entire weekend in singles play, winning today 6-0, 6-0 against Drake, and 6-1, 6-0 versus Western Illinois. Yesterday, she defeated Carmen Peters of Illinois State, 6-1, 6-0. After winning the first set, 6-3, Antunovic fell behind early in the second, 0-3. With the threat of being forced to play a third set with Demos, the senior rallied from behind to tie the set at six. In the tiebreaker, Antunovic pulled ahead to win 7-5, for her ninth-straight tiebreaker win. No. 64 Anna Redescsi and Selma Salkovic improved to 17-1 after two more wins today. They first faced Veronika Leszayova and Sarah Plowman of Drake followed by a match against Western Illinois’ Stephanie Baumer and Yana Meinert. Gia McKnight increased her singles win total to a team-high 25 after her two wins today. She beat Kari Sloboth, 6-0, 6-1, and did not give up a single game to Stephanie Boumer. “I’m so happy with how the first half of our season has gone,” says head coach Mark Ardizzone, “To be ranked No. 30 in the nation heading into the second half speaks to how hard the girls have worked this year.” The Blue Demons on off until March 25, when they travel to Texas to face Southern Methodist.
