No. 28 Blue Demons Face No. 24 SMU and St. John's

CHICAGO After two weeks away from competition, the No. 28 nationally ranked women’s tennis team gears up to face No. 24 Southern Methodist for a spring break match-up on March 25.  The first serve is slated for 6 p.m. (CST) on the courts of the Turpin Tennis Stadium.  On Sun., March 29, the Blue Demons return to the Lakeshore Athletic Club to host St. John’s in a BIG EAST Conference dual beginning at 1:00 p.m.

DePaul, who improved to 15-2 (1-0, BIG EAST) after a triple-header weekend earlier this month, is led by No. 79 doubles pair, Selma Salkovic and Anna Redecsi.  The duo currently boasts a record of 17-1 and holds a nine-match winning streak.

Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic have already surpassed the 20 singles-match win milestone having 25 and 21 victories, respectively.  With 19 wins apiece, Dunja Antunovic and Redecsi have the opportunity to join them on Wednesday, while Salkovic and Sandra Zmak could potentially join the 20-win club on Sunday against the Red Storm.

SMU (18-2) has won its last seven duals including a narrow 4-3 triumph over then-No. 28 TCU last Thursday.  The Mustangs are led by No. 57-ranked Marta Lesniak.  The freshman also ranks in at No. 43 in doubles play along with partner Aleksandra Malyarchikova.  On Wednesday, they first compete against Arkansas-Little Rock before taking on DePaul.

The Redstorm (3-7, 2-1 BIG EAST) kick off a week of league competition beginning on Tues., March 24 against Cincinnati.  From there, the team faces Connecticut and Marquette before traveling to Chicago to face the Blue Demons on Sunday.  DePaul has not lost to St. John’s since joining the BIG EAST in 2005, and has not lost at home since the 2006-07 season.

Lakeshore Athletic Club is located at 1320 W. Fullerton.  Admission is free for all spectators.
