Women's Tennis Rolls Past Florida Atlantic
BOCA RATON, Fla. The No. 59 DePaul women’s tennis team won its fifth consecutive dual on Thursday with a 7-0 shutout at Florida Atlantic. The Blue Demons won the doubles point before they swept the Owls in singles competition.
DePaul opened the dual with three dominant wins in doubles play. Senior Beatrix Csordas and freshman Selma Salkovic notched an 8-3 victory over Claudia Kecht and Elodie Wendling in the top match, while junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell posted an 8-0 shutout over Hannah Findlay and Virginia Augustin in the No. 2 match. Seniors Gergana Ganeva and Anja Mihaldinec defeated Danielle Simone and Pia Terol, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
The Blue Demons kept up their pace in singles competition. Antunovic improved her No. 1 singles record to 9-7 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Kecht in the top match, while Ganeva earned her 11th singles win of the spring with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wendling in the No. 2 spot. Salkovic pushed her dual singles record to 16-2 as she topped Augustin, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 and freshman Katarina Milinkovic defeated Simone, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4.
The No. 5 singles match saw Csordas notch a 6-2, 6-2 win over Pia Terol, while Gambrell gave DePaul a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Findlay at No. 6 singles.
Florida Atlantic falls to 3-13 on the season.
The Blue Demons (14-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) have defeated nine of their last 10 opponents. DePaul returns to action on Saturday, April 5 when Cincinnati visits Lakeshore Athletic Club for a 2 p.m. BIG EAST Conference match.
