Women's Tennis Plays St. John's and UConn this Weekend

CHICAGO – The No. 65 DePaul women’s tennis team continues BIG EAST Conference action this weekend when it travels to Connecticut for a pair of league duals. The Blue Demons play St. John’s on Friday at 11 a.m. before tangling with the Huskies at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both duals will be played at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts.
DePaul (11-6) enters the weekend with a 2-1 BIG EAST record – registering wins over Rutgers and Cincinnati but falling at Notre Dame. The Blue Demons are in a stretch of six consecutive league matches and will close out the regular season by hosting Marquette (April 14) and USF (April 15).
DePaul has posted a 108-79 singles record this season while Patricia Fargas leads the team with her 23-11 singles mark. Kelsey Lawson, Gia McKnight and Rebeca Mitrea all enter the weekend with 17 wins.
In doubles action, the No. 64 pair of Jasmin Kling and McKnight boast a 13-6 record while the pair is 11-4 in the top doubles position. The duo has won four of its last five matches including an 8-6 victory over the No. 14 ranked tandem in the country on March 21.
DePaul is 4-0 against St. John’s in conference matches but have not played the Red Storm since 2009. St. John’s is 4-10 on the year which includes a 3-2 BIG EAST record.
Connecticut (6-8) will play St. John’s prior to its match with the Blue Demons and are 3-6 in league play this season. The Blue Demons hold a 2-0 series advantage over the Huskies while the two teams are meeting for the first time since 2009.
Following this weekend’s matches DePaul closes out the regular season at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness – hosting Marquette and USF. Following the Noon match with the Bulls on April 15, DePaul will celebrate Senior Day and the careers of Cali Gustafson and McKnight.
