Patricia Fargas Picks Up BIG EAST Player of the Week Honor
April 9, 2013
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A 2-0 singles weekend against a pair of nationally-ranked teams was enough to earn Patricia Fargas a first career BIG EAST Player of the Week award, announced the league office on Tuesday.
The recognition was the first-ever for the Barcelona, Spain-native and the third weekly award for the women's tennis team this season - freshman Matea Cutura garnered the honor on February 5 and March 13.
Fargas owns a 17-10 singles record overall and is 13-7 in dual match play, mostly at the second spot in the lineup. She also holds a 3-1 record against BIG EAST competition.
Over the weekend, she had a hand in DePaul's second ranked win of the season as the Blue Demons took down No. 64 Central Florida 6-1 in Tampa Bay, Fla. Playing at the three, Fargas defeated the Knights' Josephine Haraldson in a tidy 6-0, 6-2 match.
On Sunday, Fargas moved up to the two and defeated No. 57 South Florida's Loreto Alonso-Martinez in a close affair, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
In doubles, Fargas is 15-10 competing with six different partners and has won four of her past six outings. She teamed with classmate Jasmin Kling over the weekend to produce a split, winning 9-7 on Saturday against a pair from UCF but falling 8-4 to a USF duo.
DePaul will be back in action next weekend, again hitting the road as the team faces BIG EAST opponents in Cincinnati and Louisville. The Bearcats will be up first on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. CT.
