Women's Tennis Falls to No. 16 Notre Dame
NOTRE DAME, Ind. The No. 61 DePaul women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 BIG EAST Conference loss to No. 16 Notre Dame on Friday. Junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell gave the Blue Demons a doubles victory, but the Irish took the doubles point and six singles matches at the Eck Tennis Center. The No. 2 doubles match saw Antunovic and Gambrell post an 8-3 victory over Cosmina Ciobanu and Colleen Rielley. With the win, the Blue Demon duo improves to 12-1 in doubles play with a perfect 10-0 record in the No. 2 match. Notre Dame (17-8, 3-0 BIG EAST) bounced back to take the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft topped Beatrix Csordas and Selma Salkovic, 8-4, in the top match, while Kali Krisik and Kristen Rafael defeated Gergana Ganeva and Anja Mihaldinec, 8-2. DePaul suffered losses in all six singles matches. Csordas came closest to victory when she took Krisik to three sets in the No. 5 match. The Blue Demon senior won the first set, 6-1, before Krisik came back with a 6-3 win in the second frame and a 10-5 victory in the super tiebreaker. The Blue Demons (16-5, 5-1 BIG EAST) stay in Notre Dame, Indiana on Saturday for a 9 a.m. neutral-court dual with BIG EAST rival Marquette.
