Women's Tennis Suffers Loss to Marquette
NOTRE DAME, Ind. The No. 61 DePaul women’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette on Saturday. The Blue Demons took the doubles point, but the Golden Eagles rallied with four singles wins in the neutral-court dual at Notre Dame’s Eck Tennis Center. DePaul opened the day by taking all three doubles matches. Senior Beatrix Csordas and freshman Selma Salkovic notched an 8-4 victory over Lauren Little and Shannon Brown in the top match, while junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell edged Christina Ruiz and Maria Calbeto, 8-7, in the No. 2 match. Seniors Gergana Ganeva and Anja Mihaldinec rounded out the sweep with an 8-5 win over Rachael Hush and Erin Watkins at No. 3 doubles. Singles competition saw the Blue Demons manage two wins. Ganeva posted her 15th singles victory of the spring with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Watkins in the No. 2 slot. Gambrell notched her 16th win of the dual season when she topped Robin Metzler, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 6 match. Marquette improves to 12-11 on the season with a 7-1 record in BIG EAST play. DePaul (16-6, 5-2 BIG EAST) returns to competition April 17-20 at the BIG EAST Championships in Tampa, Florida.
