Dunja Antunovic Named BIG EAST Player of the Week
CHICAGO For the fourth time this season, a DePaul women’s tennis student-athlete has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week. Senior Dunja Antunovic was honored as the final player of the week this season, after going 4-0 in her last week of regular-season competition. Last weekend the No. 45 Blue Demons welcomed Northern Illinois to the Lakeshore Athletic Club before traveling to league rival Cincinnati. The team delivered a pair of shutouts, defeating both the Huskies and the Bearcats 7-0. DePaul have now issued an impressive 15 shutouts this season. Antunovic contributed a perfect 4-0 record en route to two team-victories last weekend. Not only did she win both of her singles matches, but gave up just three games total from the No. 1 match. She beat Northern Illinois’ Lilian Asuaje, 6-0, 6-2, while defeating Ksenia Slynko of Cincinnati 6-0, 6-1. Dunja has shouldered the majority of the top-match responsibilities, and has posted a 10-4 record (24-11 overall) from that position. Antunovic, along with doubles partner Kirsten Gambrell, tallied a 2-0 record over the weekend from the No. 2 doubles spot. On Friday against the Huskies, the duo delivered an impressive performance for the Senior Day crowd, triumphing over Martina Schnapp and Emily Rogers 8-1. The following day versus the Bearcats, Antunovic and Gambrell allowed Jennifer Rowen and Elizabeth Young to make a competitive run, but overcame the surge and put the match away in a tiebreaker. DePaul is currently in Tampa, Fla. preparing for the BIG EAST Championships, hosted by USF. The No. 2-seeded Blue Demons get the tournament underway on Friday at 8 a.m. (CST) to face the winner of Syracuse and West Virginia.
