Vladutu Named BIG EAST Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

NEW YORK – Ana Vladutu was named the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time this season, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The honor marks the second of her career for the fifth year senior who went 4-0 overall in DePaul’s (12-7, 3-2 BIG EAST) two matches last weekend.

Vladutu played No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles with Florence Abbott in the Blue Demons’ victories over Butler and Western Michigan.

Against the Bulldogs on her Senior Day, Vladutu tallied a 6-2, 6-0 finish over Jocelyn Koester. In doubles, she and Abbott defeated Koester and Jordan Minnick 7-5.

DePaul swept Butler 7-0.

On Sunday against Western Michigan, DePaul blanked the Broncos 4-0. Vladutu and Abbott contributed to the doubles point with a 6-2 win against Denise Azcui and Barbare Eristavi, while Vladutu recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Katja Fevralev.

Vladutu now boasts a two-match singles win streak and has 10 wins in the dual season.

DePaul closes out its regular season with two matches this weekend. The Blue Demons travel to Milwaukee, Wis. for a match at Marquette and return on Saturday for a home match against Seton Hall. Both matches begin at 3 p.m. CT.
