Anna Redecsi Earns BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week Honors
CHICAGO - DePaul senior women's tennis student-athlete Anna Redecsi was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week it was announced today by the league office. This is Redecsi second player of the week honor this season while it is her fourth career weekly honor.
Redecsi helped the No. 30 Blue Demons to a 1-1 record last week. DePaul fell to No. 5 Notre Dame 6-1, before topping rival Marquette 6-1 in the team's regular season finale on April 17.
Against Notre Dame, the senior collected her fourth victory over a ranked opponent this season, a 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 defeat over then-No. 15 Kristy Frilling on April 16. With the win, the senior entered the ITA rankings for the first time since March 16 and stands at No. 79.
Redecsi capped off her week with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Marquette's Paola Calderon. The win was the senior's six straight in the number one position and Redecsi finished the regular season with a 20-9 mark.
The Blue Demons begin their quest for a BIG EAST Championship on Friday when they take on either St. John's or Louisville at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame's Courtney Tennis Center. DePaul earned the No. 3 seed in the league championship and have won seven of its last eight duals.
