CHICAGO -- DePaul junior Gia McKnight was named to BIG EAST Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week it was announced on Wednesday by the league office.   McKnight helped the Blue Demons to a pair of 4-3 road victories at Marquette and at Cincinnati last week which kept DePaul unbeaten in BIG EAST duals.

The Morgan Park High School graduate went 4-0 last week -- winning a pair of matches in both singles and doubles play.   At the No. 2 singles position, McKnight posted a 7-5, 6-2 win against Cincinnati and a 6-2, 6-1 win at Marquette.  The junior improved to 19-17 in singles and has won her last three matches, dating back to April 10.

McKnight team with freshman Kelsey Lawson for a pair of wins in the No. 2 doubles position.  The tandem defeated their Bearcats counterpart 8-2 and their Golden Eagles opponents 9-7.  McKnight and Lawson have won all four of its matches this season.

McKnight is the second Blue Demon to be named the league’s Player of the Week this season.  Katarina Milinkovic earned the same honor on Feb. 16.  Since DePaul joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06, McKnight is the 10th Blue Demon to earn the league’s weekly honor.

DePaul (13-9, 4-0 BIG EAST) closes out the regular season at No. 24 Notre Dame on April 23.  The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.  (CST) and live scoring is available.
