Blue Demons Close Out Regular Season Action This Weekend

CHICAGO – DePaul women’s tennis is to play two matches this weekend to close out its regular season of competition. The Blue Demons travel to Marquette on Friday, April 21 for a match at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium and return to Lakeshore Sport & Fitness for a match against Seton Hall on Saturday. Both matches start at 3 p.m. Central time.

DePaul (12-7, 3-2 BIG EAST) boasts a two-match win streak after notching two victories last weekend against Butler and Western Michigan. On its home court, the Blue Demons hold a three-match win streak, the last being a 7-0 sweep over Butler.

Ana Vladutu was named the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Athlete of the week after going 4-0 overall last weekend. Vladutu, along with Yuliya Shupenia and Keisha Clousing all have 10 singles win for the dual season. Aspasia Avgeri leads all with 15.

Marquette (13-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) returns to its home court for the first time since March 4. The Golden Eagles finished last weekend 1-1, winning their last match against South Carolina State 4-3. Paula Tormos Sanchez has 14 dual wins on the season, including a 6-0 mark at the No. 3 spot.

Last season, the Blue Demons defeated Marquette 5-2 at home. Patricia Lancranjan won her singles and doubles rounds in the victory

Seton Hall (7-7, 1-2 BIG EAST) dropped a close 4-3 match against St. John’s at home last Sunday. Anna Fajnorova is 2-0 in BIG EAST play for singles and holds an overall 9-1 record at the No. 2 spot.

DePaul traveled to Seton Hall last season, defeating the Pirates 5-2.

Following the weekend, DePaul travels to the BIG EAST Conference Tournament April 27-30 in Cayce, S.C. Tournament champions secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

No. 63 Women’s Tennis Defeats Marquette 5-2 on Senior Day
The No. 63 DePaul women’s tennis team ended its regular season of competition on a high note with a 5-2 victory over Marquette Friday evening on the courts of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
