Kling Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year

CHICAGO – DePaul rookie standout Jasmin Kling was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year as it was announced by the league office on Thursday, April 26.
Becoming the first Blue Demon to earn rookie of the year honors since DePaul joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06, Kling was also named to the all-conference roster as the Blue Demons’ sole representative.
Kling, who joined DePaul in January, posted an 11-6 record in the top singles positions and ranked as high as No. 103 in the Campbell’s/ITA Poll. The Heilbronn, Germany native also ranked as high as No. 64 in the doubles poll with Gia McKnight.
The rookie standout, earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on Feb 14 and posted a 6-2 record against league opponents. Kling posted a season-long four match winning streak from April 1-14. During the streak, three of her four wins came in straight sets. In doubles, Kling tallied a 16-9 mark.
Kling is the fourth DePaul player to earn the Conference’s Freshman of the Year honors – Szilvia Kelemen, Gergana Ganeva and Beatrix Csordas all earned the same honor in Conference USA.
Kling became DePaul’s ninth All-BIG EAST Selection since the Blue Demons joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06. She is also Ardizzone’s 20th all-conference selection in his 16 seasons at the helm of the DePaul tennis program.
DePaul (15-8) tied for third at the BIG EAST Championship a week ago and ranked as high as No. 38 in the Campbell’s/ITA Team Poll.
