Trio of Blue Demons Earn BIG EAST Honors



CHICAGO - DePaul women's tennis student-athletes, Katarina Milinkovic, Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic were each named to the BIG EAST All-Conference team, it was announced today by the league office.  The Blue Demon trio helped DePaul to a program-best No. 21 in the Campbell/ITA team rankings and a second place finish at the BIG EAST Championship this season.

Redecsi was one of three unanimous selections to the All-Conference team.   The senior, who also earned all-conference honors last season, currently ranks No. 75 in the singles rankings and boasts a 21-15 record. 

Redecsi went 7-2 against league opponents and was named the BIG EAST Women's tennis player twice this season.  When paired with Salkovic, the Blue Demon tandem reached as high as No. 9 in the National doubles rankings, and boasts a 7-4 record against ranked opponents.  Redecsi and Salkovic enter the NCAA Championship with a 29-7 mark and went 8-3 against conference opponents.

Salkovic went 14-4 in the number two spot, while the junior boasts a team-best 23-10 season mark in singles action.  Salkovic, was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week once this season and registered an 8-1 record against league opponents.   The junior enters the NCAA Championship having won nine of her last 10 matches.

Milinkovic, who earned All-BIG EAST honors as a sophomore, posted a 6-3 record against league opponents this season.  The junior boasts a 22-10 overall record while she went 10-3 in the third position and a perfect 3-0 in the fourth slot. Milinkovic posted a 20-14 record in doubles play, while when paired with Sandra Zmak the duo went 7-3 including a 5-2 record against BIG EAST foes.  Entering the NCAA Championship, Milinkovic has won her last two singles matches and eight of her last nine.

Notre Dame led all teams with four members on the All-Conference team and also picked up Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year honors.  DePaul followed with three All-Conference honorees, while USF had two and Rutgers and Syracuse each had a representative.

The Blue Demons, who are No. 23 in this week's National Team rankings, await the NCAA Championship Selection show on May 4.  DePaul is looking to make the program's first ever NCAA Tournament, while Redecsi and Salkovic are hoping to be DePaul inaugural pair in the doubles bracket.
