DePaul Women's Tennis Announces 2012-13 Schedule
CHICAGO - Head coach Mark Ardizzone and the DePaul women's tennis team announced their 2012-13 schedule on Monday, September 10.
"We have a very challenging schedule this year," said Ardizzone, who begins his 17th season at DePaul this fall. "With matches against over 10 nationally-ranked programs, five out of the top-six other teams in the Big East and some other top regionally-ranked programs, we will be challenged early and often. This young team of seven underclassmen will have to grow up quickly for our program to reach its goals. We are looking forward to the challenge for sure."
The slate includes an early home tournament, the DePaul Invitational, as well as four more fall events before the squad flips the calendar to 2013.
In the spring, the Blue Demons kick off with the Purdue Invitational from January 19-21, and also play two duel matches in Chapel Hill, N.C. during the first month of the year. The first team the Blue Demons will face, Virginia Commonwealth, is coming off a CAA Championship and its 13th NCAA Appearance in 2012.
In February, DePaul faces Wisconsin-Milwaukee to open the month before a five-match home set that includes matches against Butler, Northern Iowa, Eastern Michigan, Utah and Iowa.
The Blue Demons' first BIG EAST duel match comes on Friday, February 15 when the team travels to Marquette before a quick trip over to East Lansing, Mich. to take on Michigan State.
Three more home matches follow, as DePaul hosts IPFW, Western Illinois and Syracuse before hitting the road for the rest of the season.
Beginning on March 2, the Blue Demons head to Indiana for matches against Notre Dame - the 2012 BIG EAST Champions and a NCAA Tournament Second Round team - and the Hoosiers on consecutive days.
The following weekend will be an Ivy League affair with both Princeton and Yale on the docket for March 8-10.
In late March, the Blue Demons will take a five-day spring break trip to Laguna Beach, Calif. getting a road match in versus Cal State Fullerton on March 26.
April 6-7 will see the Blue Demons face a pair of Florida foes in Central and South Florida, which finished the 2012 season ranked No. 43 in the ITA team rankings and finished second at the BIG EAST Championships.
The team will then wrap up the regular season with another regional road trip to a pair of BIG EAST opponents in Cincinnati and Louisville from April 13-14.
The BIG EAST Conference Championship is scheduled for April 18-21 in Tampa Bay, Fla. Times will be announced closer to the annual tournament.
