CHICAGO – Looking to perpetuate an upward trend, the DePaul women’s tennis program opens up the 2017-18 season on Friday at the three-day Bradley Invitational in Downstate Peoria.

The Blue Demons have won the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Championship three of the last four years including last season’s dramatic comeback triumph over St. John’s in Cayce, S.C.

They will also be shooting for their fourth NCAA tournament appearance in the last five years.

DePaul will join a field featuring Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Illinois and Western Illinois in the tournament being played at the David Markin Tennis Courts.

Representing the Blue Demons will be junior Milica Tesic and freshmen Lenka Antonijevic, Marija Jovicic and Alina Kuzmenkova.

Antonijevic and Jovicic will open doubles play at 10 a.m. against Jana Kustkova and Ivon Mihaleva of ISU. At the same time, Kuzmenkova and Tesic team up against Maria Potsi and Brodie Walker of NIU.

Kuzmenkova opposes Thisuri Molligoda of NIU in a 1 p.m. singles match while Jovicic takes on ISU’s Veronika Golanova at the same time.

Antonijevic’s opening singles test is at 2:30 p.m. versus Natalia Bravo of WIU. Also at 2:30, Tesic faces Malini Wijesinghe of host Bradley.

The Bradley Invitational is the first of five fall tournaments for coach Mark Ardizzone’s program.

At last year’s tournament, Aspasia Avgeri returned to Lincoln Park with a 3-1 record in singles play while teammate Marina Cozac went 2-2. In doubles, Cozac and Tesic were 1-0 while Avgeri and Tesic finished 1-1.
