The Blue Demons capped a weekend of competition in Evanston, Illinois on Sunday as Northwestern's tournament came to a close. Bojana Murisic and Selma Salkovic won their doubles flight at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
EVANSTON, Ill. The DePaul women’s tennis team closed out three days of competition at the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational on Sunday. Bojana Murisic and Selma Salkovic won their respective doubles flight as the Blue Demons wrapped up the tournament at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
Murisic and Salkovic marched through the Flight B doubles bracket, knocking off tandems from Wisconsin, Michigan State and Mississippi on their way to the championship match. The Blue Demon pair won the title match with an 8-5 decision over Michigan State’s Whitney Wilson and Ana Milosavljevic. DePaul’s Kirsten Gambrell and Katarina Milinkovic reached the semifinal round of Flight B doubles before they suffered an 8-3 loss to Wilson and Milosavljevic.
The Blue Demons failed to advance past the first round of Flight A doubles. Beatrix Csordas and Gergana Ganeva fell, 8-3, to the Spartan duo of Manon Noe and Lindsey Lonergan, while Anja Mihaldinec and Dunja Antunovic lost to Mississippi’s Nika Koukhartchouk and Preethi Subramanian.
Flight A singles saw Antunovic post a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Michigan State’s Stephanie Kebler in the first round before falling, 6-3, 6-2, to Purdue’s Stephanie Wooten in the quarterfinals. Milinkovic also won in the first round of Flight A singles with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Jessica Seyferth of Wisconsin. The DePaul freshman suffered a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 loss to Northwestern’s Maria Mosolova in the quarterfinals.
Gambrell reached the semifinals of Flight C singles as she notched a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Wisconsin’s Erin Jobe before recording a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Michigan State’s Wilson in the quarterfinals. The Blue Demon sophomore fell, 3-0, to South Carolina’s Megan McGavock in the semifinals.
The Blue Demons return to action on Friday, October 19 at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The five-day tournament runs through Tuesday, October 23rd at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
