Women's Tennis Complete Day One of Wildcat Invitational
EVANSTON, Ill. The DePaul women’s tennis team complete Day One of the Wildcat Invitational with a near perfect singles record. Freshman Gia McKnight remains undefeated in singles play for the season, while Dunja Antunovic and Anna Redecsi earned their first fall tournament victories.
Antunovic, who missed the Bronco Invitational to compete in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, defeated Elizabeth Carpenter of Wisconsin 6-4, 4-6 (3), in the Flight A singles draw. Donning a Blue Demon jersey for the first time, Redecsi knocked off LSU’s Hannah Robinson in a decisive 6-1, 6-1 decision.
Representing DePaul in the Flight B singles bracket, Katarina Milinkovic beat Maria Kalashnikova of Oklahoma, 6-0, 6-4. McKnight improved her singles record to 5-0 by defeating LSU’s Whitney Wolf, 6-3, 7-6.
Sandra Zmak, who was a bracket champion at the Bronco Invitational, was victorious against Jackie Sperling of Minnesota, 6-3, 6-4. Dana Guentert of Michigan State fell to Selma Salkovic, 6-1, 6-2.
Adding a victory in doubles play was Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell, who beat the Minnesota duo of Sperling and Welch, 8-5, before bowing out to Southern Carolina’s Zubori and Vockovic, 8.2. Zmack and Redecsi teamed up to defeated MSU’s Ivanova and Wickman, 8-3.
The Wildcat Invitational resumes tomorrow in Evanston at 9:00 a.m.
