Csordas, Doubles Duo Win Titles at Northwestern Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Beatrix Csordas won the A Flight singles title and the doubles tandem of Marina Parashkevova and Petra Rehusova took the championship in the top doubles flight at the Northwestern Invitational over the weekend.

Csordas, a native of Budapest, Hungary, won all four of her matches on the weekend.  She defeated Northwestern's Andrea Yung in a thrilling three set match to win the title.

In the top doubles flight, Parashkevova and Rehusova defeated Northwestern's Valerie Vladea and Jamie Piesel 9-7 in the final.

“I was really proud of Beatrix. She really came up big in only her second college tournament.  She played great all weekend,” head coach Mark Ardizzone said. “Marina and Petra stepped up big in the doubles as well. Marina really showed why she is one of the best doubles players in the Midwest.”

Overall it was a great weekend for the team, we competed extremely well for three straight days which is what we will need to do consistently if we’re going to have a great season,” Ardizzone said.

Rehusova nearly won her second straight singles title this season but was defeated by Northwestern's Jamie Piesel in the Flight B Championship.

Gergana Ganeva went 3-1 in Flight A and finished in third place while Parashkevova went 3-1 and won the backdraw of Flight A. Ganeva and Csordas also finished in third place in Flight A Doubles.

In Flight B, Bojana Murisic went 3-1 and finished in fifth place while the Flight C action had Anja Milhadinec in fourth place.  Brenda Leung finished in ninth place in Flight C. Clare Chmiel finished in 7th place in Flight C.
